For Athiests and Agnostics

Every person experiences an existential quest for meaning and the existence of God.

Life Requires Intelligence

Many people (including atheists) claim that there is no intelligence behind the construction of our universe. They suggest our universe came into being by chance. They of course cannot prove their claim – indicating that their claim is merely their belief. However, the principle that there is intelligence behind the establishment of all things, can be observed around us. This principle undermines the notion that things came into being without the direction of intelligence, and underscores the existence of God, and of scriptural accounts - indicating that there is in fact intelligence behind the establishment of all things.

If intelligence is required to establish all things, it follows that intelligences matching the description of God, established our universe – since only beings with the intelligence and power of God, could do such a thing. The above is extremely important, because it underscores the fundamental legitimacy of religious texts, that contend that our universe is ruled and run by myriad intelligences beyond our direct perception – just as there are countless microorganisms which interact with our bodies, we are directly unaware.

Therefore when people say it is irrational to believe in God and the claims of the Bible, you can point to the above and show that it is in fact rational to believe in God; and that these people’s contention that there is no God, is merely their belief, which does not hold up to reason.

Watch the Athiest Delusion for Free By Living Waters

Environmentalism, climate change is NOT the answer. Condition of the human heart is the root problem. As much as environmentalists try to save the earth, their efforts will ultimately end in failure. The Bible predicts that during the tribulation hour, the world will come to near complete ruin. The destruction will be so wide scale, the prophet Isaiah warned, that men would become as rare as fine gold.

By only addressing the symptoms of man’s misdeeds, environmentalists are doing nothing to correct the root problem of human nature: sin. Without the transforming power of Jesus Christ, the environment will be resigned to its determined fate. God has given fair warning about how the transgression of His law will lead to wide-scale judgment. If environmentalists wanted to do some lasting good, they would be wise to devote their energy to being disciples of the words of Jesus Christ. Even nature itself is under the curse of sin. When Adam fell, the animal world fell with him.

I have spoken to atheists, agnostics, religious people, many who questions certain aspects of the Bible. church teachings, but at the bottom of it there is a quest going on. No atheist, by simple understanding of logic, could deny the existence of God, if there would not be something like a “god” or “God.” You logic, you can not deny what doesn’t exist.

Atheists are so opposed to anything linked to God that their hatred gets in the way of common sense. One of their most grievous errors is a cultic fixation with death. I have read the views of several leading atheists and have found an almost universal embracing of death. For them, life is just meant to come to an abrupt end.

They reject any option that provides a potential solution to the dying process. Atheists are all for someone wanting to live longer, but if they desire to live forever─it suddenly becomes a vice. They pride themselves on being free of religious dogma yet they cling to one creed─“In death there is no hope.”

Albert Einstein was a brilliant man, but his insight was restricted to the material world: “The concept of a soul without a body seems to me to be empty and devoid of meaning. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death.”

Atheists go as far as calling eternal life a curse. They argue that life with no end would eventually become boring and unbearable. One atheist said that if he, was allowed into heaven after a few thousand years, the empty perfection of the heavenly realm would compel him to ask God for annihilation.

I don’t see the warm embrace that many atheists associate with death. At the end of their lives they would lose everything they achieved in this world. Their loves, discoveries and experiences would all be instantly voided. I can only conclude that the obsession with death on the part of atheists is the result of demonic delusion. Even a godless skeptical mind should know that one of the basic driving forces in nature is the desire to preserve life─at all costs.

When I see people who blindly embrace death, I see the fingerprints of the one who brought death into this world.

“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

Why God Allows Evil

“Theodicy” simply means a “defense of God’s goodness and omnipotence in view of the existence of evil.” This is a challenge because human reason is not enough to understand the reasons God uses to manage evil in this world. Atheists and agnostics who complain about God’s allowing evil to exist shouldn’t be allowed to get away with attacking a generic “God” of their imaginations, such as one built by a consensus of minimalistic attributes which Christians, Jews, Muslims, and philosophical Deists all can generally agree to. Instead, we must let the Bible speak God’s revelation while allowing enough room for the mystery of God’s management of evil. We know FREE WILL is the cause of pain, suffering, and evil. Beyond that we don’t understand why some suffer more than others. There are reasons why God allows what He allows. We don’t understand it, except by faith, that God is still in control of this planet. Precisely in control of every event. Nothing will happen out of His control. The cosmos we see is under God’s vigilant eye. God is not running crazy all over the world, putting out fires as a maniac micro-manager! He is the Divine, compassionate CEO, and beyond what we know and understand, He controls, knows, and manages everything. Best way to put it, a mystery! Faith is the only handle of it. This aspect of God, makes me feel compassion for people who suffer more than I do. It drives me to long to be God’s hands and feet to others in the world. Understanding often makes us cold. Mystery tends to keeps us vulnerable.

Why Does God Seem Angry?

In his book “The God Delusion,” atheist Richard Dawkins writes a scathing rendition of God as he sees Him in the Old Testament.

Dawkins says: “The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” (Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion, Great Britain: Bantam Press, 2006, 31.)

The same thoughts are shared by atheist Charles Templeton who states: “The God of the Old Testament is utterly unlike the God believed in by most practicing Christians … His justice is, by modern standards, outrageous…. He is biased, querulous, vindictive, and jealous of his prerogatives.” (Charles Templeton, Farewell to God, Toronto: McClelland and Stewart, 1999, 71.)

“For the “WRATH” [It doesn’t say God is wrath. Wrath is not about the essence of His character but a way to react to a certain situation] of God is “REVEALED”

Same word used for “apocalypse” from the Greek “apocalupsis.” In this case is used as a verb in its present indicative with a passive voice. God’s wrath REVEALED means: opening up, manifesting, seeing beyond the here and now, disclosing, taking off the cover.

…from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).

The best understanding of the word WRATH is found in the context of Romans 1. This is a basic principle of hermeneutics or Bible study. By the way, one of the marks of “minimalist religions” is the use of words and texts out of context. Always go to the context to understand what anything means. Seek the meaning of something throughout the entire Bible. Read everything in context. “Lousy” Bible understanding begins with words and statements taken our of context.

The answer to our quest is in verses 21-32 and the key phrase is “God gave them over." It is used three times in the passages from 21-32. We are told that “God gave them (sinners who refused to acknowledge Him as God) over” to the lusts of their hearts (v. 24), degrading passions (v. 26), and to a depraved mind (v.28). This expression “gave them over” is a technical term that referred to what one did with a convicted criminal: he or she is given over to be punished. So Paul tells us that sinners are being “punished” (be careful how you use this word) right now by God “giving them over." God’s wrath is expressed presently by this decision of God’s to “give them over."

God’s wrath is not anger out of control or a wrath stained by sin like our human wrath. An angry God is a PASSIONATE God for those He loves! He is reacting not in the form of anger and wrath the way we understand it, but deep, beyond words pain, seeing His people walking away from Him. Letting them go. Wrath and anger when applied to God refers to a bleeding love, a love that breaks His heart. Let me attempt to describe “wrath of God” carefully. God’s wrath is God’s decision, rooted in his character of love, and respect of free choice, to deal with a situation that is not of His creation, with the elements that are not of His creation either. “Giving sinners up to their choice” is one expression of the wrath of God, but this can not and must not be simply described as God’s punishment, even though the human language of the Bible says it that way. When God allows the forces and powers who make “His people” rebellious against Him, to take over, He is expressing what we call the “wrath of God.” Are you with me so far, Friend?

The closest we have to describe this action of God is in Ephesians 4:26. “Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath." Anger is not always irrational. Jesus was angered at hard hearts (Mk. 3:5; Jn. 2:15-16). What feeling should such callousness as the Pharisees exhibited evoked in our Lord? To see sin ruining lives, both now and in eternity, and not be angry at the devil and foolish people who allow themselves to be taken by him is unthinkable. Righteousness loves light, and hates darkness (John 3:20). But his hate is not your kind of hate and mine. Thus, every expression of darkness must be met with righteous indignation or anger consistent with a character of love. This hard to comprehend, I know!

God responds to me in “wrath” because of my sin. Sin is external to His essential nature. God loves me because He is love! Can you see the distinction?

There is hope for people who wish to gain eternal life. The greatest promise made in the Bible is when God said, “I will give you eternal life.” Jesus paid the price of allowing our bodies to become immune to death. In order to receive that gift of immortality, all we need to do is ask for it.

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live(John 11:25).
